Lowries Run Expansion Project
Protecting Local Land
SUMMARY | Allegheny Land Trust is pursuing the protection of 27 acres that would expand its existing Lowries Run Conservation Area and contribute to an emerging greenway across municipal boundaries, including 27 acres owned by Ross Township and 138 acres recently acquired by Ohio Township.
BENEFITS | Protecting this land helps address water quality and flooding issues in Lowries Run by allowing for the continued absorption of 22.5 million gallons of rainwater annually. It also helps maintain air quality by sequestering 109,125 pounds of carbon and removing 1,913 pounds of other pollutants annually.
Additionally, conserving this green space would preserve wildlife habitat, protect air and water quality, and maintain natural areas that absorb rainfall and slow stormwater runoff.
Together with neighbors, we have the opportunity to grow this emerging greenway and support community health, well-being, and outdoor enjoyment.
FUNDING | A total of $670,000 is needed to conserve the land. We are pursuing a multi-pronged funding plan to seek support from state, county, foundation grant sources as well as local corporations. The final critical component of the funding puzzle is always donations from individuals in the community.
In October 2026, we were awarded $277,200 to protect this land. This marks an important milestone in our campaign to raise the necessary funds to conserve this land.
Now, we need your help! In order to meet state grant match requirements and fulfill our funding plan, we need $50,000 from individual supporters. We hope you’ll support this effort to grow this greenway.
